Description of Itrabo
The way into Itrabo looks much as it must have done in the Moorish times of al-Andalus, over 500 years ago, leading us towards this village of whitewashed houses and narrow streets. The town is agricultural based, with fruit orchards a plenty-- chirimoya (custard apple), nispero (loquat), avocados, olives and grape vines.
The first-pressed mosto is so abundant and of such high quality that local producers compete in an annual wine festival at which all the different wines can be tasted, and the prize for best mosto of the year is awarded. The wine is accompanied by bread baked in the age-old way, in wood-fired ovens.
The town has a council run swimming pool, open during the summer months. There are 2 supermarkets, 2 cafe bars/restaurant, pharmacy, doctor´s surgery, a B&B and lovely country walks. A new road to Almuñecar (Taramay) is planned to be built in the foothills, which should take around 10 minutes to reach this Costa Tropical town´s beaches.
